A country park which has been the subject of controversial planning applications in recent years has been listed for sale.

Betteshanger Country Park is a 230-acre site on a former coal mine between Deal and Sandwich in Kent.

In March 2024, plans for a controversial surf lagoon and 120-room hotel on the site were approved along with a spa, gym and restaurant.

The plans drew opposition from local residents, the Kent Wildlife Trust and the RSPB over concerns about the impact on wildlife.

The planning application for the site was rejected in July 2023 and subsequently withdrawn, before being resubmitted in October 2023.

Real estate company JLL, which has the site listed on its website, says the buyer will also have the chance to "explore planning potential for a 150-lodge holiday park along with additional commercial space".

The operational business at the park includes a museum, restaurant and events space.

JLL said the park welcomed about 100,000 visitors annually for outdoor sports and adventure activities.

The real estate company and the team behind the park have been contacted for more information.
