Human League gig washed out, but others to go ahead

A series of weekend concerts will go ahead despite a show by The Human League being cancelled due to flooding.

Hitchin Live has said Thursday's show was cancelled because of severe weather, including heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The band, best known for Don't You Want Me, said it was "very sorry about the cancellation" and hoped fans already at Hitchin Priory had managed to get home safely.

Organisers said the event could not be run safely due to the weather, but the remaining concerts, featuring Rudimental and The Libertines, would go ahead this weekend.

In a Facebook post The Human League wrote: "Obviously the weather is something no-one has any control over and the rain and lighting this evening was undoubtedly epic.

"Our sincere apologies for not being able to play for you all tonight. We are honestly just as disappointed as you are."

Concert-goer Neil Dury said he arrived around 16:00 BST.

He said attendees were warned that the concert had been postponed because of an approaching storm, but around 19:00, were told it had been cancelled.

He said as they left the venue all roads were flooded and the fire service was pumping water out.

Dury added: "The last time I saw Human League was 45 years ago at the Rainbow. "We were so looking forward to it... It's one of those things in life you just have to put up with, unfortunately."

A spokesperson for Hitchin Live said that following advice, the decision was made to cancel the event and they were in contact with ticketing providers regarding next steps.

They added: "We thank everyone for their understanding and support"
