Car driver dies following crash with road sweeper

A man in his 30s has been killed in a crash involving a road sweeper and a car.

Northamptonshire Police said the incident happened at about 11:15 BST on Thursday on the A5 by Astcote, close to Towcester, leaving the road closed for hours.

It said the driver of the silver Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene.

It appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage, recorded on the A5 between Bell Plantation Garden Centre and Foster's Booth junction, to get in touch.

"Any small piece of footage is useful and could be the vital detail we need as part of our investigation," the force added.
