Actor Mark Bonnar said he would like to reprise his role as Blackbeard in a future Assassin's Creed film or TV adaptation.

The Scottish actor, who lives in Hertfordshire, played the infamous pirate using motion capture in the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag video game in 2013. On Thursday night, Ubisoft announced it would release a remake in July.

Netflix is currently shooting an Assassin's Creed TV series in Italy. It follows the success of video game adaptations such as The Last of Us and Mario Bros.

Bonnar told the BBC, prior to the game's relaunch: "I'd love to play Blackbeard [in a series], and I get really kind of jealous and annoyed whenever I see a pirate show."

Describing his role in the original 2013 game as "one of my favourites", he said: "Initially when I auditioned [we thought it was] for an animated series because they're so secretive about these things.

"My agent discovered it was a computer game - she went, 'Do you want to do it?'. I was like, 'Are you kidding me? Imagine being in a computer game, it would be amazing,' and it was."

The game, set in the 18th Century, followed pirate Edward Kenway in a story that included real-life historical figures, such as notorious pirate Edward 'Blackbeard' Thatch.

It was nominated for four Bafta Games Awards in 2014, including Best Game.

Speaking before the remake announcement, Bonnar kept any details he knew under wraps, but admitted it would be nice to hear Blackbeard again.

He said: "Listen, I pull him out at any opportunity I get because he was one of my favourites. Blackbeard is just, you know, he's unbridled."

As a keen gamer, Bonnar would love roles in God of War and The Last of Us

The self-confessed gamer who has "been playing games all my life" said he would also love a role in his favourite gaming franchises, such as God of War or the Last of Us "because the scripts are so brilliant".

"I think anything that has a great script, again, Black Flag written by Darby McDevitt who's a fantastic writer - anything that has a great script is always going to be good."
