A power outage at a major hospital has hit its IT system and telephone lines.

The NHS trust that runs the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital announced the power outage just after 19:30 BST.

In a statement, the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust reported "significant intermittent issues" with some of its telephone lines, but later said they were back up and running at around 21:15.

The trust said that lifts at the hospital in Gloucester were also currently not working, and people should "only visit if it is essential".

"We have experienced significant intermittent issues with some of our telephone lines and power but these are now working," the hospital trust said.

"This has followed a power outage which has also impacted on our IT systems."
