Charges dropped in racially-aggravated assault case

The trial of a man who had been charged with racially-aggravated assault and using threatening, abusive and insulting language has been discontinued.

Benjamin Gray, 59, from Eastville in Bristol, denied racially abusing people and assaulting a woman on Cheltenham Road on 7 March.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges before trial, which Gray was informed of at Newport Crown Court on Thursday.

A charge of assault by beating is expected to be formally dropped at a City of London Magistrates' Court hearing on 26 August.
