John McMonigle was found dead in a property in Glenhove Road, Cumbernauld

Detectives are investigating the murder of a man whose body was discovered in a property in Cumbernauld.

John McMonigle, 45, was found dead in the Lanarkshire town's Glenhove Road at about 09:20 on Wednesday.

Officers said he had sustained serious injuries and after a post-mortem examination, his death was being treated as murder.

Police Scotland said it was working to establish "the full circumstances" and appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Det Ch Insp Laura Young, senior investigating officer, said: "We understand this incident will be concerning for the local community and officers remain in the area and anyone with concerns can approach them.

"We are asking anyone who saw Mr McMonigle in the lead up to his death who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.

"We are also asking the public to check any private CCTV they might have and dashcam footage."

Det Ch Insp Young said specialist officers were supporting his family.

She added: "Our thoughts are with Mr McMonigle's family at what is an extremely difficult time for them."
