Police raid shuts multimillion-pound cannabis farm

A "huge" cannabis farm has been shut down after a raid in Doncaster, police have said.

Officers targeted the warehouse in Braithwaite on Monday morning and said they found almost 1,800 plants.

The lead officer in the case said the "very significant grow" had a street value of millions of pounds and was clearly the work of an organised crime group.

A 23-year-old man was arrested and appeared before Barnsley magistrates on Tuesday charged with producing cannabis. A 41-year-old man and 40-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis were bailed pending further inquiries.

Sgt Emma Townley, who led the operation, said: "Had we not intercepted this grow, these drugs would have found their way onto our streets and we know that drug use and drug dealing are directly linked to violent crime, exploitation and unwanted antisocial behaviour.

"By eliminating this threat, we've been able to cut off and disrupt a major drug supply line."

She appealed to the public to tell police of any suspicious activity they saw, or to report it anonymously to Crimestoppers.
