Firefighters are tackling a fire at a scrapyard on the Isle of Wight, with a number of shipping containers alight.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said crews were using hose reels and main jets to contain the fire at Smallbrook Lane, Ryde.

A 200m cordon has been put in place around the scrapyard. Police said Smallbrook Lane and Great Preston Road have been closed and people have been urged to avoid the area.

Thick black smoke could be seen rising from the site which is close to Smallbrook Stadium, south of Ryde.
