Dozens of firefighters battle huge hay fire

Eleven crews tackled the blaze on Wednesday evening

Dozens of firefighters tackled a blaze involving a farm vehicle carrying 20 tonnes of hay, which spread to nearby crops and woodland.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to Dinthill in Shrewsbury at about 18:50 BST on Wednesday.

Eleven crews were sent from across the county, including Baschurch, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Wellington.

The service said the fire spread from the vehicle and hay to a 100m x 100m (109yd x 109yd) area of stubble, as well as nearby coppice.
