Driver jailed after pedestrian dies from crash
Kent PoliceA driver who was under the influence of cannabis has been jailed after hitting a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road in Margate.
Jamie Sutton, 30, admitted causing death by careless driving and drug driving following the collision in his Audi in Northdown Road, Cliftonville, on 18 April 2024.
The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was treated in hospital for serious injuries and discharged, but died from complications relating to his injuries in February 2025, Kent Police said.
Sutton, formerly of Northdown Road, was arrested at the scene and jailed for three and a half years at Canterbury Crown Court on Wednesday.
After the hearing, Sgt Luke Olsen said the case was "devastating".
He said: "A driver's poor judgment and irresponsible behaviour under the influence of drugs have ultimately resulted in the loss of a much-loved man's life.
