The A15 will be closed between the A46 Riseholme roundabout and the junction with the A1500, near the Lincolnshire Showground

A section of the A15 between Lincoln and the Lincolnshire Showground will be closed overnight for pothole repairs.

The closure, from the A46 Riseholme roundabout to the A1500 junction, would be in force from 20:00 BST on Wednesday to 06:00 on Thursday, Lincolnshire County Council said.

The authority said the closure was necessary to ensure the safety of both crews and motorists.

Access for residents would be maintained with a diversion route in place for other road users for the duration of the works.

Ashley Behan, traffic manager at the authority, said: "These works are necessary along this section of the A15 to ensure the route remains safe and reliable for all road users.

"We appreciate how important the A15 is as a strategic commuter route, so these works are being carried out at night when traffic flows are lower, to significantly reduce the disruption to road users."

Diversion route

The signed diversion is via the A46 towards Burton Waters, A57 towards Saxilby, A156 towards Torksey Lock, A1500 Tillbridge Lane towards Sturton by Stow, following until the A15 Lincolnshire Showground roundabout, and vice versa.

Behan added: "The signed diversion is longer than those familiar with the area may expect. We know there are a several shorter routes that local people will know.

"However, we sign diversions along like-for-like roads, to ensure all vehicles, including HGVs, travel on the most suitable alternative routes."
