Services safe to resume after hospital fire

A full safety assessment at a Borders hospital hit by a fire has cleared the way for its services to resume on Friday.

Fire crews were called out to the Knoll Hospital site in Duns on Wednesday at about 13:00 to reports of smoke coming from a boiler room.

A fire affecting the roof was put out and nobody was injured.

Outpatient clinic services at the site were disrupted on Thursday but are now expected to return to normal before the weekend.

The community hospital and health centre had to be shut and services moved elsewhere to allow "swift remedial action" to potentially dangerous concrete in January 2025.

In the latest incident, alarms were triggered and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent to the scene.

NHS Borders said it was pleased to confirm that services could safely return to normal on Friday.

"We would like to thank patients, staff and contractors for their patience, understanding and support following the incident," it added.
