A woman has been arrested and remains in hospital after a car crashed through the wall of a town centre gym, injuring a man inside.

Eye witness Dylan Winborne, 21, said he thought there had been an explosion when a vehicle went through a wall and into the training area at the JD Gym in Bury at about 17:00 BST on Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police said a man in his 60s, who was inside the gym, was struck by the car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and remained in hospital, police said.

The incident happened at the JD Gym at Angoulome Retail Park in Bury

Winborne, from Bury, said he and his friend were training close to the point of impact and saw a man who was thrown "two to three metres from the car" after the equipment he was using was hit.

Winborne told the BBC: "We were literally walking over to that exact seat the car... [ended up] next to and we heard a massive bang.

"The headlights were on and we could see rubble shining in the headlights."

He said he ran over because a man "in his 60s was on the floor and had got hurled two to three metres from the car".
