A man has died after getting into difficulty in the water at a beach in Essex.

Police said they were called to the "medical emergency" at Marine Parade East in Clacton-on-Sea at about 11:05 BST on Friday.

Emergency services including paramedics, firefighters and coastguard workers all attended, but the 69-year-old man died at the scene.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said its Clacton and Walton rescue teams and an RNLI lifeboat were dispatched.

Essex Police said it was treating the death as unexpected but not suspicious and a file would be prepared for the coroner.
