The Red Arrows will carry a unique collection of gold coins minted in Jersey when they take part in the King's birthday celebrations on Saturday.

Jersey has marked the flight display team's 60th anniversary with a limited-edition run of 22-carat gold coins.

Only fifteen sets of the coins have been made, with each coin the size of a 50 pence piece and with a face value of £50.

The first nine sets will be taken up by the Red Arrows' pilots when they take part the annual Trooping of the Colour flypast, to celebrate King Charles III's official birthday.

Set number two, which will fly in the plane immediately behind the leader, will be returned to a collector in Jersey after the event, along with a certificate confirming its authenticity.

The coins will be legal tender in Jersey, though as the collectors value is much higher than the face value they are highly unlikely to enter circulation.

Examples of the coins will be on display at St. Saviours Parish Church on the Sunday after the Jersey Air Display in September.
