A new pedestrian-controlled crossing will be built over the A465

A new puffin crossing is to be built across a busy A-road to link a planned housing estate to a village primary school and post office.

Bell Homes gained detailed permission for the 15-home development at Burley Gate, Herefordshire, last January.

Herefordshire Council has now made an agreement with the developer for the crossing, which has traffic lights operated by buttons, to be built over the A465 Hereford to Bromyard road.

Five of the houses will be classed as affordable, with priority given to people with local connections.

The current bus stop on the south side would be relocated a short way to the east, near where a new turning off the A465 into the estate is planned.

Bell Homes has also agreed to make contributions to local schools, health, transport and recycling facilities.

An original outline plan from 2018 included a community shop by the proposed crossing. This was not featured in the detailed plans, but could still be put forward under a separate application.
