Port gas leak causes traffic gridlock
Chris AllenA gas leak has disrupted a port and caused severe traffic congestion across a city centre.
ABP, which runs Southampton Port, apologised for disruption caused by the earlier leak adjacent to Ocean Cruise Terminal.
It said the Eastern Docks were reopening and passenger embarkation was resuming at the terminal, where the cruise ship Queen Anne was due to depart at 16:00 BST.
Gas supplier SGN has been approached for comment.
Long traffic queues built up on main roads around the terminal, including West Quay Road and the Itchen Bridge, according to Google.
An ABP spokesperson said: "We expect some delays in and around the city and the port due to earlier traffic congestion.
"We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and thank everyone for their patience."
Southampton City Council said it was informed shortly before 14:00 that ABP had reopened dock gates 4 and 5 and the issue had been resolved.
