La Voix enjoys acting drunk in new stage role
Getty ImagesDrag performer La Voix has said she has "really enjoyed" pretending to be "sloshed with gin" in her latest acting role.
She has recently starred as the tyrannical, heavy drinking orphanage boss Miss Hannigan in the 2026 UK and Ireland tour of the hit musical Annie.
The RuPaul's Drag Race runner-up and Strictly Come Dancing competitor said her character "basically spends the whole show drunk".
"I've had great fun tripping over chairs and missing seats when I've sat down", she told the BBC backstage in Canterbury.
'The demon'
Though she said she was used to feathers, serovskies and bugle beads, La Voix added it was also quite nice wearing Miss Hannigan's stained costume.
"I can have my lunch in-between shows, and if I spill something down it, I don't worry," she laughed.
Her costume is "dirty it's grubby, it's a little sexy negligee", the drag performer said.
"I think [Miss Hannigan] is trying to pull every man that comes to the orphanage, the laundry man, the policeman. She's just desperate for a little bit of company in her life.
"God bless her."
But La Voix continued that Miss Hannigan was "not a cartoon baddie".
"There's heart in there and, of course, a lot of tomfoolery," she said.
SuppliedLa Voix, who has also competed on Britain's Got Talent and Queen of the Universe, as well as serving as a mentor on Queens for the Night, said she had "never really been a children's person".
But she said she "adores" her younger co-stars in the musical.
"The children in the show are so talented and so amazing and they really are the stars of tomorrow and I'm loving working with them," she said.
"It's lovely to see your favourite nostalgic children's film come to life."
Reflecting on her time on Strictly, La Voix said her dancing partner Aljaž Škorjanec "might have been slightly relieved" when she left the show due to injury.
"He [had to] put up with me for a lot of weeks," she said.
"But you know, I adored that time on that show - what a way to really get to grips with the demon that is dance."
