A second youth has been charged after violence broke out when police officers stopped an electric motorbike in Aberdeen.

Two police officers were assaulted and a police car was also vandalised in the incident on Byron Square in the Northfield area of the city on Sunday night.

The violence broke out at about 21:15, after officers arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy at the scene, and issued a warning to an 18-year-old man in connection with an alleged shoplifting offence nearby.

Police Scotland said another "male youth" had now been charged in connection with vandalism. The investigation is ongoing to identify others involved.

It is understood the injuries the officers suffered were minor.

Ch Insp Vicky Stables of Police Scotland said: "It is vital that officers are safe while carrying out their role in protecting our communities.

"Being faced with such antisocial behaviour and violence is deplorable. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

"High visibility patrols remain ongoing in the local area and officers are working with local businesses to provide reassurance. Anyone with concerns should speak to officers."

She urged the public to contact the police with any information on the illegal use of electric motorbikes.
