Man charged over Clapham fatal stabbing

A man has been charged with murder after a 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed in south London in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called at about 04:30 BST after the victim - named as Abdulkadir Mahamed - took himself to hospital with stab wounds following an incident on Clapham High Street. He died later the same morning.

The suspect, Javed Khan, 22, also faces a charge of violent disorder relating to the same incident.

Khan, of Maskell Road, Wandsworth, is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court later. He is due to appear alongside a second man, Adonay Berhan, 27, of Mason's Avenue, Croydon, who is accused of assisting an offender.

A 25-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody.

Three men, two 22-year-olds and one aged 24, who were arrested on suspicion of murder have been released with no further action.

Speaking on Saturday, Supt Mark Gallacher said: "This is a tragic incident and our officers continue to support the family of the young man who has sadly died.

"We understand that this will cause concern among the local community and specialist detectives are doing everything possible to determine what has happened.

"We are asking anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed anything in the early hours to contact us and support with the ongoing investigation."
