In pictures: A night of dramatic lightning strikes

There were dramatic scenes of thunder and lightning across the West Midlands overnight in the wake of the recent hot weather.

Our region's Weather Watchers captured dozens of images during the storms, including in Birmingham, Coventry, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton and Worcestershire.

It comes after the Met Office issued warnings for thunderstorms for parts of the UK, following a record-breaking heatwave.

On Tuesday, temperatures exceeded 34C in south-east England and a new May record of 35.1C was recorded at Kew Gardens in London.
