Man arrested over cattle stolen from farm

A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of cattle from a farm in North Yorkshire.

Police said seven cows had been recovered and were being returned to a farmer in Ripley after they were stolen on Sunday night.

North Yorkshire Police said a man in his 30s from the West Yorkshire area had been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The force said it took rural crime "extremely serious" and remained "committed to protecting our farming and rural communities".

The arrested man remained in custody as inquiries continued, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

They added: "The farmer has been updated and arrangements are now being made for the safe return of the cattle.

"Rural crime can have a significant impact on farming communities, causing financial loss, disruption to businesses and considerable emotional distress.

"Livestock theft is far more than a property crime. For many farmers, their animals represent years of hard work, investment and dedication."
