Walk-in mental health centre will offer 24/7 help
Sheffield Health PartnershipA 24/7 walk-in centre offering mental health support is set to open in Sheffield, providing a "safe place for people in crisis".
The Gleadless and Heeley Centre will open later this month, and be available to everyone in the local community who needs support as well as carers.
The centre, at Newfield Green, is part of a wider NHS pilot taking place at six sites across England offering support to people who walk in, telephone or are referred.
Sheffield Health Partnership said: "It will offer easy access to mental health services close to home with support for carers and families."
The group added: "One of the aims is to simplify the way care is delivered and make it easier to access.
"It will be a safe place for people in crisis with better coordination between different health services."
The team will have expertise in urgent and crisis care, early intervention, older adults and community health.
People will be able to get early help to avoid crisis, including overnight support, and it will be personalised, flexible care.
The centre, a £1.3m project funded by NHS England, will be located at two buildings.
The library and Terry Wright Community Hall will continue to be part of the local community and accessible to all, but facilities are being refurbished to include space for mental health services.
Newfield Green Clinic will be expanded to provide more rooms for mental health services.
A new wellbeing café has already opened offering support to people struggling with their mental health, specifically those who are distressed, anxious or overwhelmed.
The café is open 08:00 to 22:00 seven days a week.
