Trains delayed as 'most bashed bridge' hit again
SuppliedTrains have been delayed and a road closed in both directions after a lorry hit a bridge once dubbed the "most bashed" in Britain.
Leicestershire Police said the A5 Watling Street bridge in Hinckley had been closed after a lorry crashed into the railway bridge at about 19:30 BST on Tuesday and badly damaged its roof.
Train operator CrossCountry said the line - which runs between Nuneaton and Hinckley - is expected to be affected by disruption for the rest of the day.
They added train services running through these stations could be cancelled, delayed or diverted.
A limited coach service will run between Nuneaton and Leicester from 21:00, National Rail said.
Midlands Connect said regular collisions at the bridge had caused more than 4,400 hours of road delays each year, adding the real cost of bridge strikes could be significantly higher than the figure calculated.
