A swimming pool in Surrey will stay open over summer after refurbishment work was delayed, a council has said.

The revamp of Hurst Pool in Molesey had originally been due to begin in March but was delayed because of "contractor issues", Elmbridge Borough Council said in April.

The council said it was working with a contractor and now expected work to start in autumn, adding: "Hurst Pool will now stay open throughout the summer, so you can continue to enjoy swimming, lessons and activities."

Hurst Pool is operated and managed by Places Leisure on behalf of the council.

The pool will remain open for summer as plans are finalised, the council said

Work on the pool, set out earlier this year, included plans to "breathe new life into the pool, extending its lifespan and greatly enhancing the visitor experience", the council said.

The revamp included modernising changing rooms, upgrading interior decor, enhancing energy efficiency and improving vending provision for refreshments and coffee.

Councillor Simon Waugh said the scheme would revitalise a "much-loved facility".

The pool, which has about 157,000 visits each year, was described by the council as being well cared for but in need of significant upgrades.
