Police are investigating a shooting in Sheffield

A family home in Sheffield was shot at over the weekend, police have said.

South Yorkshire Police were called to the house on Hyde Park Terrace at about 21:00 BST on Saturday and found a bullet inside the property.

A young woman was inside but nobody was injured, officers said. No arrests had yet been made in connection with the shooting, the force added.

Det Ch Insp Scott Harrison said: "A family home has been shot at on a usual Saturday, while a young woman was at home enjoying her evening. This is frankly appalling."

He added: "Those who have chosen to commit this callous act clearly do not care about the consequences of their actions, and may be thinking they got away with it under the cover of night.

"But rest assured, this is certainly not the case."
