Police patrols at known accident blackspots in the Highlands detected a spate of speeding offences last weekend.

Vehicles were clocked at 103 and 114mph on the A82 at Loch Baa on Rannoch Moor on Saturday. Two men aged 59 and 22 were reported for dangerous driving.

Police also detected speeding offences among a group driving "high performance cars" in convoy on the A835 near Garve the following day.

Five men aged 38, 44, 51, 53 and 57 were reported for dangerous driving.

The stretch of A835 in Ross-shire is part of the North Coast 500 tourist route.

A motorcyclist was later recorded doing 129mph on the A835. The 33-year-old man was reported for dangerous driving.

Meanwhile, during a patrol, officers in an unmarked police car were overtaken by a speeding motorist.

The 49-year-old male driver was reported for speeding and drink-driving offences.

Sgt Doug Scott said speeding, dangerous driving and drink-driving were three of the five most common causes of fatal road accidents.

He said: "These drivers are choosing to put themselves and others at serious risk.

"Anyone who treats our roads like a racetrack will be dealt with robustly."
