Teenager dies at Dovestone reservoir

Police are warning people not to enter open waters

The body of an 18-year-old man has been pulled from a Greater Manchester reservoir.

Greater Manchester Police said emergency services were to Dovestone Reservoir, Oldham at about 19:00 BST on Friday.

Police in Oldham posted on social media that the man was found "unresponsive" in the water and "despite best efforts of medical professionals, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene".

Det Insp Steven Horton said: "We have tragically recovered the body of an 18-year-old man from the water and are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances."

He added: "Our thoughts remain with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

"We strongly encourage people to stay safe and refrain from entering large bodies of water including reservoirs, rivers, canals, or ponds"

"Your safety is our priority. Please look after yourselves and enjoy the weather safely."

A scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing.
