Top honour for radiographer after more than 30 years

A woman who began working in radiography at hospitals more than 30 years ago has been made president of the Society and College of Radiographers (SoR), one of the profession's highest honours.

Rachel Nolan, assistant imaging services and professional lead at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, became the SoR's 89th president.

She began her training at 19, and her first job was in January 1990 at the Edith Cavell Hospital in Peterborough.

Nolan said: Becoming president of the society... is something I would never have dreamed of as a 19-year-old starting my training. I've had many proud moments during my career, but this is definitely the pinnacle."

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust runs Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Cambridgeshire, and Stamford and Rutland Hospital in Lincolnshire.

Nolan said: "I feel immensely proud to take on this role.

"Radiography is a fantastic profession, and I am passionate about supporting both patients and colleagues.

"I am looking forward to working with radiographers across the country and helping to promote the vital contribution they make to healthcare every day."
