Outline approval for 80 new homes near village

Plans to build 80 new homes on an estate near a village have been given outline approval by a council.

Developer Kislingbury Farm LLP submitted plans for the site off Upton Valley Way North, next to Pineham Village, which is a housing estate of about 559 homes to the west of Hunsbury, Northamptonshire.

West Northamptonshire Council received about 100 objections from residents and Hunsbury Meadows Parish Council, citing concerns about potential flooding and traffic congestion.

However, councillors approved the application at a meeting on 6 August.

The homes will include a range of two-bed and five-bed properties across both houses and apartments, as well as the provision of 18 (22.5%) affordable homes, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Hunsbury Meadows Parish Council objected to the development, raising concerns about potential flooding, traffic and congestion on local roads, and the strain on limited infrastructure in the area.

Planning officers told the meeting that the vast majority of the site lay within flood zone one - which is the lowest flood risk - and reminded members that the plans were on a site allocated by the council for housing.

Reform UK councillor and planning committee member Adrian Little said: "We have to make a decision based on the expert evidence that's put before us, so unfortunately I don't see many reasons why we could refuse this."
