The schools offering extra SEND support this year

There are now 27 primary and six secondary SEND resource bases in Wiltshire schools

Pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will have access to two new specialist centres as the autumn term begins.

Wiltshire Council has expanded its provision for pupils who need extra support, with two new 'resource bases' opened at Kingsbury Green Academy in Calne and Noremarsh Junior School in Royal Wootton Bassett.

A resource base is a specialised classroom or designated area within a mainstream school that provides tailored education for children with additional needs.

Kingsbury Green headteacher Nicola Bull said the school's new base would ensure pupils "feel included, valued, and able to succeed alongside their peers".

There are now 27 primary and six secondary bases in the county as part of the council's £10m SEND investment programme.

In December 2025 the government announced that councils planning to build new specialist schools could choose either to continue with their current plans or receive funding to create an equivalent number of places in existing schools.

Wiltshire Council's cabinet decided there would be no new SEND schools built in the county in May and voted for £4m in funding to be spent in local schools instead.

Specialist bases support a range of needs including speech, language and communication needs, autism and complex learning needs.

Headteacher at Noremarsh Junior School, Hilary MacMeekin, said the new base was a "significant milestone" that "reflects the inclusive ethos" of the school.
