Badly-parked cars on a street made it "even more difficult" for crews to tackle a house fire, a spokesperson for the service has said.

A fire ripped through the kitchen of a semi-detached house in Rosemead, Benfleet, where neighbours heard a smoke alarm going off at 18:20 BST on Wednesday.

Dave Farrant of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service praised those who called 999 and stopped the flames from spreading, and asked residents to consider access for emergency vehicles when parking.

"Cars were double-parked along this street which made it even more difficult for our crews to carry out their jobs," he added.

Four crews attended the fire, which was put out within 30 minutes and was caused by an electrical fault, the fire service added.
