Man charged with attempted murder over shooting

A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a teenage boy who was shot in the leg in Huddersfield.

Jordan Bearnard, 19, is accused of attempting to kill the 17-year-old in a shooting on a football pitch off Spaines Road, in Birkby, on the evening of 8 April.

The victim suffered a non-life-threatening leg injury in the incident, West Yorkshire Police said.

Bearnard, of Robin Hood Road ,Huddersfield, who has also been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court earlier where he was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 14 May.

Police said the 17-year-old boy had been shot at while walking with friends near to the pavilion on the Woodlanders FC football pitches between 20:30 and 21:00 BST.

Following the incident, the force said two masked men had been spotted behind trees in a snicket off Richmond Avenue just prior to the firearms discharge.
