Boy takes on 30-day triathlon in stepdad's memory
BBCA 13-year old boy has raised nearly £5,000 for a charity which cared for his stepdad before he died from cancer.
Rory, from Guernsey, has taken on a month-long challenge to complete a triathlon per day to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice.
Rory has cycled 3km, run 2km and swum 1km (cycled 1.8 miles, run 1.8 miles, swum 0.6 miles) every day since 5 August, aiming to finish the challenge on 3 September. So far he has raised £4,775, smashing an initial target of £1,000.
He told BBC Guernsey : "It has definitely been difficult. Muscle ache over time has made it progressively harder."
'Incredibly proud'
Rory said swimming was the challenge he found the hardest, adding he was not "a particularly sporty person".
In a statement on the fundraising page, Rory said he wanted to "push" himself because the hospice "pushed themselves for us".
He said: "They gave my stepdad dignity and love right until the end, and they supported my whole family when we needed it most.
"This challenge is my way of saying thank you."
He also lost his biological dad to cancer when he was 16 months old, his page said.
His mother Victoria said she was "incredibly proud" her son.
She said: "We thought it was impossible. So proud of him, he's doing really well."
