Police believe the collision came after an altercation between two groups of men

A man has sustained life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run after an altercation between two groups, police say.

Emergency services were called to Oxford Place in Easton, Bristol, at about 11:00 BST on Friday after a man in his 20s was hit by a car that failed to stop.

The man was taken to hospital and continues to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries. A second man sustained minor injuries.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Initial enquiries suggest the collision came after an altercation between two groups of men."

"At this stage we believe this to be an isolated incident and do not consider there to be any wider risk to the public," they said.

The two men are believed to have arrived in a silver Seat Leon before getting out and being hit by a black Mini Cooper, which then drove away towards Stapleton Road and St Marks Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, including anyone who saw a 08 registration black Mini Cooper on Friday afternoon in east Bristol.
