Travel warnings issued ahead of Lewes Bonfire

Tens of thousands attend the Lewes Bonfire procession every November

Rail and bus operators, emergency services and local authorities have issued warnings ahead of the Lewes Bonfire on 5 November.

Tens of thousands of people attend the annual event in East Sussex, with 40,000 thought to have watched 2024's procession through the town.

As usual, there will be limited rail services to and from the town, with people who do not live locally being urged not to attend.

Some of the area's roads will also be shut on the night.

Trains will not stop at Lewes, Falmer, Cooksbridge, Glynde and Southease from 17:00 GMT on 5 November until the start of service on 6 November.

The last trains leaving Victoria and going to these stations will be at 15:24 and 15:54.

Road closures will take effect from 16:45 on 5 November.

The closures will be:

  • The A27 junction with A277 Brighton Road (Ashcombe Roundabout)
  • The A275 Offham Road with B2116 Plumpton Road
  • The C7 Kingston Road junction with C324 Wellgreen Lane
  • The A26 junction with A2029 Malling Street
  • The A26 Church Lane junction with Mayhew Way
