Man and woman injured after 'irritant' attack
Sarah Jane BrownTwo people have suffered facial injuries after an "irritant" was thrown at them while they were sleeping rough in Scarborough, police said.
The man and woman were in the Ramshill Road area of the coastal town when they were targeted at about 02:30 BST on Wednesday.
North Yorkshire Police said the pair were taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be serious.
A woman has been arrested in connection with the attack, the force added, and remains in custody for questioning.
The incident led to two areas of the town - Ramshill Road and Northway - being cordoned off, with road closures put in place.
A force spokesperson said: "Our thanks go to members of the public who assisted at the scene and to the local community for their patience while the road closures remain in place."
Witnesses or those with information that could help the investigation are urged to contact police.
