Thousands of people are expected to celebrate Eid-al-Adha at a Wolverhampton park on Wednesday.

Hosted by the Jamia Masjid Al-Aqsa Wolverhampton Central Mosque, the annual event will be held at West Park.

Gates will open at 09:00 BST with speeches at 10:00, followed by Eid Salah, also known as prayers, at 10:30.

Councillor Sohail Khan, a member of the mosque volunteering at the event, said: "It is a privilege to see Eid in the Park return for its sixth year and continue to grow as a meaningful occasion for our city."

Khan said about 5,000 people were expected to attend, with all of the volunteers chipping in to make the event come together.

"This event reflects what Wolverhampton is at its best, communities coming together with respect, understanding and a shared sense of belonging," he said.

"At a time when division and intolerance are too often highlighted, gatherings like this remind us of the strength found in unity and mutual respect."

The councillor said there would be religious speeches in Arabic and English, with speeches from different communities.

He added: "I want to thank all volunteers, sponsors and the City of Wolverhampton Council for their continued support in making this event possible in one of our most cherished public spaces."
