Firefighters have spent the night tackling the fire at a derelict three‑storey building

A fire has swept through a derelict building causing its roof to collapse.

The fire in the three-storey building at Cornhill, Sherborne, broke out on Sunday shortly before 18:00 BST.

At its height, more than 35 firefighters from eight stations were sent to tackle the blaze. Crews remain at the scene after working through the night to put the flames out.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said no injuries had been reported and the cause of the fire would be investigated.

People living nearby were urged to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution overnight due to the large amount of smoke.

The A30 at Kithill was also closed with diversions in place.
