Police investigating the murder of a woman in Alderney have recovered a wrecked vehicle at the base of cliffs.

The body of 34-year-old Hannah Benfield, nee Cox, was found in the sea in the west of the island on 28 September and her husband, Simon Benfield, 44, has been charged with her murder.

Guernsey Police said a vehicle identified at the base of a cliff during a search operation had now been recovered.

The force said it requested support from the Ministry of Defence, which used a Chinook helicopter to lift the vehicle out before it was transported to Guernsey.

Guernsey Police said a "significant cordon" was in place around the headland during the operation and the vehicle was transferred to Port Soif.

Officers also received support in securing the vehicle from a specialist ropes team from Avon and Somerset Police.
