We'll swim together till depth do us part

Love is in the water for a couple who got engaged in the shark tank at Skegness Aquarium.

James Walsh, from Wendover, Buckinghamshire, proposed to his girlfriend Paige Cook while they were taking part in a diving-with-sharks experience he had bought her as a Christmas present.

James said he chose the Lincolnshire aquarium as it was "somewhere different, somewhere unique, and somewhere memorable".

Paige added: "This [was] the best day of my life. I've always wanted to go scuba diving and swimming with sharks. Then [the proposal] happened and I completely forgot I was in a tank!"

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire, James said he had emailed the aquarium, and had been told it had a sign he could use.

"They separated us from the rest of the group, and then a man snuck round with the sign," he said.

Paige said she was "completely in shock", and replied to the proposal with an "OK" hand signal.

"My first thought was, 'Am I going to run out of air from hyperventilating?'"

James admitted he was slightly nervous that a shark could have eaten the engagement ring that was attached to his wrist.

The aquarium's Jamie Elvidge said: "It's an adrenaline-fuelled experience anyway, and then when you add the extra excitement of this you feel like you're there and part of it.

"It is a really unique way of popping the big question."
