Unused storm-damaged walkway in Skye to be dismantled

A walkway at a ferry terminal in Skye is to be demolished having never been used by the public.

Built as part of a major upgrade of Uig harbour, the 984ft (300m) structure was "significantly" damaged during construction by Storm Ashley in October 2024.

Christine Gillies, a Highland Independent councillor for Eilean a Cheò, said the covered walkway could not be salvaged.

Highland Council said it had agreed a "settlement for the recovery" of the construction cost.

Work to remove the ferry passenger shelter has started and could take three weeks to complete.

There is no replacement structure planned at this time.

Gillies said the site would be left in a "safe state" and people would be able to access the ferry safely.

A Highland Council spokesperson said traffic management would be in place to ensure that there would be no disruption to ferry operations during the work.
