Inside the 'scariest house on Rightmove'

An old station house that is up for auction in Nottinghamshire has had unexpected attention after being dubbed the "scariest house on Rightmove".

The property in Bleasby dates back to the 1840s, when the railway station opened, and would have been home to the station masters who were responsible for opening and closing the station barriers.

But although steeped in local history, the eerie character of the house in its listing images is what seems to have gathered interest.

Area manager at Auction House Notts & Derby, Jonathan Way, said he believed it was a "creepy doll" left standing in the corner of a bedroom that had captured people's imaginations.

The house had been empty for some time and a number of break-ins eventually led to the downstairs windows being boarded up, which had not helped the atmosphere, Way said.

He added the house had been left untouched before the images were taken for the listing.

Speaking about his first visit, alongside his colleagues, Way said: "It was a little bit unsettling.

"It was all boarded up downstairs, there wasn't any natural light downstairs. The lights weren't working either so we had to use phone lights to move around.

"Upstairs wasn't too bad but the doll and the pram were a little bit creepy.

"I definitely wasn't expecting that when I walked up the stairs."

The property caught the attention of the content creator behind the Housing Horrors TikTok account, where a video was posted dubbing the old station house the "scariest house on Rightmove".

The social media account regularly shares videos of property listings, often highlighting some of the strangest looking houses on the market across the country.

But the post had not put people off, Way said.

The area manager said the property had still proven to be very popular.

He said: "You get the odd quirky [property] but I've not really done one like that before.

"It's a really old station house.

"It's still got the original brickwork and the design in side obviously hasn't been touched for a number of years."

The property is due to go under the hammer on 28 September.
