Internet access suspended at dozens of schools

A potential security incident has caused a major city-wide internet outage in about 80 council-run primary, secondary and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) schools.

Bristol City Council said it had suspended access to its Trading with Schools internet network earlier as a precautionary measure while the problem was investigated. All affected schools had been contacted by the council, a spokesperson for the authority said.

One of the schools affected, St Mary Redcliffe, said it remained open and safe for students and staff but could be without its phone lines and usual systems for some time.

The council advised that the disruption could potentially continue into early next week.

A spokesperson for Bristol City Council said: "We are currently investigating a potential security incident across the Trading with Schools network.

"As precaution we have suspended internet access for the affected schools.

"We appreciate the challenges and impact that this disruption may cause teaching staff and pupils and thank them for their patience while we work with partners to resolve the issue."
