Chris Martin joins busker for impromptu duet

Coldplay singer Chris Martin joined a busker in central London for an impromptu duet.

Hanny Junee was getting ready to sing Coldplay's hit Viva la Vida to a small audience in Trafalgar Square when the star joined him by the microphone and started singing along.

But Junee said he did not realise who he was. He told the BBC: "I thought: 'This guy has amazing energy, nice vibe and a really good voice, he sounds really similar to Chris Martin.'

"But I thought: 'Come on, Hanny, don't be ridiculous, of course it's not him, Chris Martin doesn't roam the streets of London.' Then he finished a verse and the next thing I know he's gone. It was magical."

Junee added: "Afterwards some people came up to me and told me it really was Chris Martin.

"It was amazing, it was like we connected purely through music, not fame."

Speaking about Friday's duet, the full-time busker from South Korea said he had given his audience of about 20 a choice between Viva la Vida and a song by The Script.

More hands went up for Viva la Vida, he said.

A Coldplay fan himself, Junee said he could not believe what happened.

He said he usually spent his days busking around Covent Garden, the London Eye and Trafalgar Square.

It is not the first time Martin has surprised fans.

In August 2025, he played an impromptu gig at a small pub in West Yorkshire, and in June 2022, he performed a song at a pub near Bath for a couple about to get married.
