Man who chased and stabbed stranger in city jailed

A man who repeatedly slashed a stranger after an argument in Nottingham city centre has been jailed.

The victim and his girlfriend were waiting for an Uber in Angel Row in the early hours of 22 November 2025 when they saw Shaki Robinson acting aggressively towards a woman, Nottinghamshire Police said.

They intervened and, following an argument, Robinson chased the man into Beastmarket Hill, stabbing his victim in the back, face and shoulder as he tried to flee.

The 49-year-old, of Radford Road, Nottingham, was jailed for seven years and six months at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday after admitting multiple offences, including wounding with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

Robinson also pleaded guilty to assault on an emergency worker and possession with intent to supply cocaine.

He later admitted possession of heroin and cannabis during the investigation.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the 21-year-old victim sitting on the floor with slash wounds to his lower back, cheek and shoulder.

Investigations revealed Robinson had continued walking along Angel Row and into Hurt's Yard carrying the knife, police said.

He was caught on CCTV throwing the weapon - a Stanley knife - which was later recovered by officers.

Robinson fought to resist arrest after officers caught up with him in Wollaton Street, with one being punched in the head, the force said.

He was subsequently detained with the help of members of the public.

Officers found wraps of suspected Class A drugs inside a sock in his pockets and large amounts of cash when Robinson was searched.

Robinson admitted the attack days before he was due to stand trial.

Det Con Natalie Gooderham said: "A number of people enjoying a night out unwittingly became involved in this incident.

"Robinson not only violently attacked the victim but proceeded to walk through the city centre brandishing a knife.

"It must have been frightening to witness and we're grateful to the members of the public who bravely intervened by assisting officers to both detain Robinson and recover the knife."
