An East Yorkshire leisure centre is set to finally re-open in late autumn after the project was delayed several times.

Goole Hub, which is replacing the previous leisure centre, was originally scheduled to open last summer, before issues on site saw the opening rescheduled to early 2026.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the leisure centre would now be handed back from developers in "just a few months".

Councillor Nick Coultish said: "This is going to be a fantastic facility for Goole. While it has been a wait for it to be completed it will be worth it and it's great that this coincides with the bicentenary year of the town."

The council previously said the delay was unavoidable because of "unforeseen structural, mechanical and electrical complications discovered during intensive investigations following the building's closure".

A spokesperson for the local authority said "significant progress" had taken place in recent weeks and the building was "starting to take shape both inside and outside".

As well as an upgraded gym and swimming facilities, the new centre will also include a new learner pool and additional activities such as a bowling alley, soft play area and obstacle course.

Goole residents have also been voting to name the new elements of the leisure centre, with the bowling alley to be called Dockyard Bowl.
