Plans for new home for children with autism
GoogleA community interest company has lodged plans to open a new residential care home for children with autism and additional needs.
Include In Autism wants to convert a vacant property off Queen Alexandra Road in Ashbrooke, Sunderland.
The Ofsted-regulated facility for up to two children aged five to 17 would operate on a 24-hour basis and have dedicated staffing.
The application for Glenholme follows a similar proposal from Include In Autism to open another residential children's home at Highgate Cottage, off Durham Road in Barnes.
Plans for the Ashbrooke site state the project would secure the long-term future of "a vacant property" while delivering a "much-needed specialist children's residential care home".
Documents add the low occupancy, continuous staff supervision and carefully matched placements will ensure the home operates harmoniously within the area.
A decision is expected following a consultation.
