A person and their dog have been rescued from the sea after getting into trouble at a coastal resort in the early hours of the morning.

Newquay Coastguard said they were tasked at about 04:00 BST after reports of a casualty and a dog in the water.

It said a lifeboat crew located both and brought them to safety and emergency teams provided care while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

The coastguard said South Western Ambulance Service took the casualty to hospital for further treatment and the dog was uninjured.
